Environmental Management System - ISO 14001 certification

The problem / brief

Our client already had an environmental policy and a practical day-to-day approach to environmental management. However, often large corporates require potential suppliers to demonstrate their environmental credentials through having a certified environmental management system (EMS). The client was committed to good environmental practices but didn’t have the expertise to set up a system that would meet the ISO 14001 Standard.

Background

A practical, tailored EMS is a great way to guide an organisation’s approach to managing environmental impacts and improving environmental performance. An EMS can be certified by an external auditor who assesses it against the ISO14001 Standard.

What did Responsible Business Consultants do?

Responsible Business Consultants created the client’s first EMS and supported management when implementing it. This involved working with the business to identify significant environmental aspects and impacts, setting objectives and actions, developing operational controls and procedures, setting up the monitoring program and developing templates and other materials.

Responsible Business Consultants continues to provide ongoing support and advisory services to the Directors including annual management reviews, internal audits and external recertification audits.

Results

The client’s EMS was created, implemented and certified to ISO 14001:2015 (without non-conformances or observations for improvement) in 2017 within a short time period. The EMS has been successfully re-certified every year since. It is a simple and practical EMS that is part of how the client does business.
